Mobily Business Announces the Winners of the Collegiate Competition for 5G & IoT Apps

Etihad Etisalat “Mobily” announced the winning projects of the Collegiate Competition for 5G and IoT applications, recently held in Riyadh. The competition was in collaboration with Ericsson and Intel and aimed at creating an interactive program for university students in order to maximize the use of IoT technologies, both locally and globally.

Prince Sattam University in Alkharj won the first place with "Save Now" project, Shaqra University came in second with their "Intelligent Irrigation System" project, while King Abdulaziz University ranked third with "Blind Guide" project. Winning team members will enjoy a three-month training program, along with a one-week intensive training at Ericsson One research center in Sweden, as well as video training sessions to turn their ideas into actual, applicable projects.

Participants presented their creative ideas via video technology, then a judging committee of six technical experts representing various entities evaluated each idea according to pre-agreed global standards.

Salman Al-Badran, CEO of Mobily congratulated the winning universities and praised their submissions as creative and wonderfully technological ideas, as they represented the development of technology and harnessing it in the service of the country and society. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to Saudi universities and their role in supporting such competitions, and valued the high engagement rate shown by students, which confirms their quest to stay updated on technical developments and confirms their high enthusiasm and passion for all things new.

The competition stems from Mobily’s and Ericsson's keenness to develop and adapt the latest technologies, and witnessed high engagement from students who saw it as an opportunity to realize their aspirations, enrich their creative ideas and stay abreast of developments in the digital and technical transformation in the Kingdom.
